The M’89 Apple
FROM APPLE TO SNEAKER
The M'89 Apple’s red accent is made from apple waste from the food industry. The leftovers from making juices, jams, and other products are turned into powder which is then used to substitute oil derivatives (such as PU) and create a new material from 100% organic industrial waste.
This vegan apple napa it’s a super innovative and ecological alternative to leather, which not only avoids the waste of raw material, by giving it a second use but also has an exceptional quality and softness.
Benefits of using the vegan apple napa
Upcycling
· Recovering the industrial waste of apple-juice production.
· Save costs of waste management.
· Substitution of oil derivatives (like PU) with 100% organic industrial waste.
· Each year, the food industry produces an estimated 30,000 tons of apple waste.
· It gives a second life to industry waste, making profit from materials that would be disposed otherwise.

Carbon Footprint
· Lowering Carbon & GHG emissions.
· The carbon footprint of polyurethane (foam) is 5,28Kg CO2 eq/Kg PU in comparison to recovered waste which is considered as impact zero. This means saving of 5,28Kg of CO2 per every Kg of apple residuals used to substitute PU.

How Is It Made?
STEP 1
The apples are collected and distributed to the different sectors (food and juice).
STEP 2
With the remains of the juice industry, the apple pulp, in this case, is turned into powder.
STEP 3
The powder is mixed with the various 100% organic additives.
STEP 4
To give it more consistency, this sheet is bonded to the backing (a mix between PU and cotton).
