Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? What is your background and what are you currently working on?

I was born in Móstoles (Madrid), but I've been living in Leganés (Madrid) since forever. I'm 26 and a descendant from immigrants. I'm a very curious person that seeks visual and sound pleasure. I like to live experiences that fulfill my soul and to meet new people and places. I'm currently working on my first album, I hope I can release it by the beginning of the year.

Where does the name Megane Mercury come from?

Since I was very little I wear glasses and watch a lot of anime and 'glasses' in Japanese is pronounced Megane, so at some point I just changed the pronunciation and made it mine. Mercury comes from Sailor Mercury.

If you were to describe yourself with only three words to a person you have just met, which ones would you choose?

Assertive, intense and easy-going.

What form of media or art do you think lets you express yourself best?

I wouldn't choose one but I would say that music allows me to use different media in a single project, and I love that.

What are your main inspirations behind your music?

It varies but lately I'm listening a lot of Jean Dawson, Willow and Yves Tumor.

One of the main focuses of your work are dissident identities, how did you find out this is something you wanted to talk about? And how do you think it has helped you evolve personally?

For me it just came naturally so I don't know how I found out haha, but it has helped me to meet new people from which I have learned.

Who do you think your work is aimed at? Who do you hope to inspire?

My work is for whoever wanna watch it, I don't know if I can control the aim, but for instance there is no history of queer POC artists in Spain so my main goal is to make that happen, so other people like me can take it and do something else.

In another interview you said that “Work done by artists of colour is often ignored, especially if you are queer.” Do you think younger generations are setting new standards to change this?

I think there is still a long road for that probably not the next generation but the next one will start to see real changes. I must say that I don't want to wait since I'm living in the present and I don't want to fight against a wall. For this to happen it is needed to take seriously how racism works, politically and among the people and that takes time.

What advice has someone given you that has stuck with you and that you still use to this day?

Everyone tells me to take it easy and I try but…
